Type II: The Mandelbrot Set
Greydon Square
2012
The Mandelbrot Set is a mathematical equation that uses a set of complex numbers that, when graphed, creates an uncanny depth of perception. This set of points, whose boundary creates a distinctive and easily recognized two-dimensional fractal shape, comes to life by assigning colors to these numbers as they approach infinity, with each color representing the speed at which they reach this runaway definition.
Benoit Mandelbrot, a French-American astrophysicist and researcher, developed this equation in 1980, and it was further expressed in the entertaining documentary by Arthur C. Clarke, The Mandelbrot Set (M-set), Fractals: Colors of Infinity.
