The Autobiography

The Autobiography

Vic Mensa

2017

Vic Mensa’s debut studio album The Autobiography is just that: a literal autobiography about his own life.

The Autobiography is a “human” album that explores Mensa’s humanity, mainly. “I leave that to the listener to make parallels to themselves. When I say that the album is my blood, sweat, and tears, and everything I’ve learned up to this point, it’s just because it literally is.” – Vic Mensa

Vic Mensa raps about how he used to tell people that he would one day be successful and blow up. However, he also highlights the fact that he has stayed loyal to his family and friends back home, he proves to his skeptics that his tree will grow, but never lose its roots.

He tells his life story and the memories that he created while living on 47th street. Vic begins the story before he was born. He articulates the details of his mother and father’s relationship. Vic tells stories from his childhood up until his early days as a rapper, including the hard times that he had to endure while growing up on 47th. From drug deals to gunshots, Vic wants the listeners to know that it wasn’t easy for him to get to where he is today, making him all the more special.
