In Urban Zombies, a well-funded bioengineering company set up a research facility in Southside, Chicago, to develop and test nanotechnology that preserves peoples minds and memories after death. When the technology backfired, the nanobots went into a self-preserving mode, turning their human hosts into virtual zombies.

Since land is affordable and legal defenses are limited, the company unscrupulously tries to cover up the existence of the program by hiring a private militarized security who. for all intents and purposes. firebombs the area, claiming it was due to “racially charged rioting” they claim had gone overboard.
