Masta Ace

2001

A New York rapper is released from a long stint in prison and moves back into the projects with his mother. Ace is reintroduced to the violence of the hood, and wants to get out of there as soon as he can. After seeing a television commercial, Ace believes he has found his perfect way out of the hood: The Institute of Disposable Arts, a college for those who want to specialize in a career in Hip-Hop.

Ace goes from being a fresh-faced new student to essentially running the place. He makes friends and “meets” plenty of women. All the while, Ace’s old life in the hood keeps creeping back in to snap Ace back to violent reality.

“I made sure my message wouldn’t be lost. I wanted to celebrate us.”
