Mr. Hood
KMD
1991
Mr. Hood features samples from language-learning tapes, cut together to create the titular character of Mr. Hood.
The album begins with the character of Mr. Hood, who enters a jewelry store where he sights Zev Love X, (MF DOOM before he put on the mask) the main rapping element of K.M.D., arguing with the place’s owner about the denial of a bracelet he was attempting to pawn.
Zev Love X introduces Mr. Hood to his posse. Everyone is hanging out and Mr. Hood comes in and changes the vibe in the room. Other adventures occur, such as taking Mr. Hood to get a haircut, and crossing the 808 Man – a 7-something foot man who tries to beat up KMD.
This album is pure golden era hip-hop: upbeat, funky, and a whole lot of fun.
