Aesop Rock delivers another tour-de-force with Skelethon, a concept album about pulling skeletons out of closets and putting them on display for all to see.

Skelethon follows Aesop’s growing isolation and the work he does in solitude. The first track appears to the “before” of isolation, whereas the last track on the album, “Gopher Guts”, is the aftermath, dealing with the much darker consequences of this kind of lifestyle.

Aes observes how difficult it is to maintain healthy relationships, and how his self-imposed exile has at times driven him insane. He looks “for a way to reconnect with an averted past”, only to realize “it doesn’t always work like that”.
