Laila’s Wisdom

Rapsody

2017

The album title pays homage to Rapsody’s maternal grandmother, Laila. The opening and title track to Laila’s Wisdom finds Rapsody channeling the wealth of advice, morals and guidance passed on from her maternal grandmother, Laila.

The most central themes in Laila’s Wisdom is conveyed through the lyrics are those of self-worth and empowerment – themes further reflected through the backing melody and vocals. Introduced by an effusive, and at times sexually explicit, Busta Rhymes on the tail-end of “You Should Know”, love takes the focus on the second half of Laila’s Wisdom. But rather than discuss love as a concept, Rapsody lets us into her own love life.
