The titles and cover art to companion albums Languish Arts and Woeful Studies give away the concept here, as well as the classroom “Good morning” greeting that opens “Full Cobra.” The educational motif evokes feelings of depression and unhappiness throughout both albums.
The implicit suggestion on Languish Arts and Woeful Studies is one laced with irony: The most hard-learned lessons are those that didn’t happen inside a classroom. They are an examination of how learned behaviors can fester and exacerbate the seemingly endless cycles of poverty and oppression that affect Black people specifically.
Hard-learned lessons of cops who could be “vegan, how they plant base” and kids who go an entire school year with one pair of pants brush up against Ka’s hunger for truths both emotional and circumstantial.
