On Born on a Gangster Star, Shabazz Palaces eschews a typical boom-bap sound for a much more experimental production and focuses on the story of the titular character of Quazarz. 

BoaGS actually serves as our introduction to a two-part concept, and tells the tale of Quazarz; a conscious being from another planet.

Quazarz is sent to ‘Amurderca’ as a musical emissary. Quazarz finds a tough world that’s cut-throat in nature and a place where someone like him could never feel totally comfortable amidst all the brutality, alternative facts, and the twisted nature of society. BoaGS allows Shabazz Palaces to critique and comment on their disappointment with the state of contemporary society.
